🕯 THE STILL POINT #10
Listening Beneath the Noise
Listening Beneath the Noise
There’s a reason Jesus so often withdrew.
Not away from people, but away from the noise.
Crowds pressed in.
Opinions followed Him.
Needs were constant.
And still, He stepped aside.
I’ve been noticing how rarely we do that.
We scroll.
We listen to everyone.
We react to everything.
News. Advice. Commentary.
Even well-meaning voices.
Over time, the volume builds.
And something quieter gets lost.
Jesus didn’t confuse urgency with authority.
He listened before He spoke.
He waited before He moved.
Often, the clearest moments in the Gospels
come after silence.
After prayer.
After stepping away.
I wonder if busyness has become our way
of avoiding that kind of listening.
Not because we don’t care,
but because we’re not sure what we’ll hear.
Stillness doesn’t empty us.
It makes room.
Room to notice what’s already stirring.
Room to hear the voice that doesn’t shout.
Room for guidance that feels steady, not rushed.
Jesus said His sheep know His voice.
But recognising a voice takes quiet.
So today, consider this gently.
What voice might you be drowning out
by staying constantly connected?
And what might happen
if you listened long enough to hear it again?

Noise makes it easy to miss what actually matters.
In a world of constant alerts, opinions, and “urgent” distractions, clarity only comes when you intentionally create stillness.
